Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be able to go into the hypnotic state?

Every normal person has on many occasions been in a state which is essentially the same as the hypnotic condition. You have at times been completely absorbed in something you were doing, for example watching an exciting movie. When you are in this state, people may speak to you and you do not hear them because you are focused on what you are doing. In clinical hypnosis you give your attention to what your hypnotist is saying to you and other sounds will not bother you. You will certainly be able to go into the hypnotic state if you cooperate and concentrate on what your hypnotist is telling you.

Will I lose consciousness?

No, you will not. You will no more lose consciousness in the hypnotic state than you did when you were paying complete attention to the movie you were watching. The word “sleep” is frequently used with reference to hypnosis but it is not the sleep you experience when you go to bed at night. To someone else you will appear to be asleep because your eyes are closed and you are relaxed, but you will know you are not asleep like at night.

Will I have difficulty awakening?

No. You will be able to awaken yourself at any time should you wish to do so. However, it is to your advantage to remain in the hypnotic state until your hypnotist asks you to awaken.

Is a weak will essential for hypnosis?

On the contrary, a strong willed person is more likely to be successful in hypnosis. All hypnosis is really self-hypnosis, with your hypnotist as your guide. It takes self-control and attention to go into the hypnotic state, and with repeated hypnosis you will learn better self-control.

Will I find going into hypnosis easier after repeated occasions?

Yes, because you will learn better how to go into the hypnotic state just as you learn practice.

Can I be hypnotized against my will?

Absolutely not. No matter how well you have learned to go into the hypnotic state you can always refuse to do so if you desire. You have learned to write, but you do not have to write unless you wish to. Hypnosis is the same.

If I am in the hypnotic state and someone suggests I do an immoral act, will I comply?

No one can be made to do anything that goes against their own moral code and no ethical hypnotist would even try. Our hypnotists are trained professionals who follow a strict code of ethics set forth by the National Guild of Hypnotists.

Is hypnosis new?

Hypnosis is probably as old as the human race, however, some of its applications are fairly new.

Can hypnosis harm me in any way?

Hypnosis can do you no more harm than night-time sleep. However, if someone were hypnotized by an untrained person, they could give suggestions that might cause discomfort. This is one of many reasons why you should only be hypnotized by a skilled professional hypnotist.

Are there different depths of hypnosis?

Yes, there are multiple levels of trance state. Some people will naturally go into a deeper hypnosis than others. Your hypnotist will guide you to the level needed to resolve your issue.

Is it possible for me to hypnotize myself?

Yes. With guidance and practice, most people can learn to do self-hypnosis. Our hypnotists teach our clients self-hypnosis so that they can re-enforce new behaviors gained during the hypnosis sessions and provide themselves with relief from their problems (ex: pain, stress, cravings, etc.) long term.

Will I remember what happened while I was hypnotized?

You will be able to recall most of the session. It may be similar to a dream. You will not remember every word, but you will retain the beneficial portions of the session.
